Trail Log: 1-20-2018

  • Miles: 8.65
  • Ave mph: 2.9
  • Max mph: 4.2
  • Riders: Self – Karen
  • Horses: Jack – J’Lo – Annie – Jane
  • Dogs: No  dogs – we wanted to stop off at the Country Coffee Cabin for lunch so left the dogs at home.

Notes: Rode from Shoepeg to Midval and had lunch at the Coffee Cabin. We’ve had a lot of rain and it’s been very soggy on the trails. We opted to ride the Weiser River Trail since it’s pretty much like concrete and doesn’t get slick or soggy. Great Thelma and Louise kind of day!

  • Trail: Succor Creek – Power line loop – reverse
  • Miles: 7.41
  • Ave MPH: 2.8
  • Max Speed: 8.3
  • Riders: Self – Ralph
  • Horses: Jack – J’Lo – Rosie the mule
  • Dogs: Shade – Hank – Gee

Notes: Not as nice today as it was yesterday but for January – I have no complaints. The fog lifted about the time we got back to the trailers.  I rode Jack and ponied J’lo. I was glad to be riding Jack – It was pretty slick with moisture from the low fog. That horse is a mountain goat.

We stopped in Adrian at the Mirage for pie and tea/coffee because dang it, we deserved it.

Me , Jack and J – Ralph and Rosie. – and our ever constant companion…”The Fog”

  • Trail: Succor Creek – Power Line Loop
  • Miles: 7.13
  • max speed: 11.5 mph
  • Ave speed: 2.9 mph
  • Riders: Self – Blake
  • Horses: J’Lo – Felina
  • Dogs: Shade – Hank – Remi

Notes: Another unusually nice day for January. It was 56° in the Owyhee’s according to my truck and it’s usually pretty accurate. I know I was over-dressed and ended up peeling off layers.  Blake rode his new colt for the first time outside the round pen/arena. She did crazy good. It’s a fairly easy trail – but it does have some technical spots, especially some of the creek crossing. One crossing had a bright yellow hose floating next to the exit bank. There was no way around it. Even J’Lo snorted at it. I thought for sure this was where the rodeo was going to happen. Fortunately – both horses did fine with it.
